Youth Stars Sud-Ouest – “Bridging the Gap”

This spring, Youth Stars Foundation will be launching a program called “Bridging the Gap” aimed at opening channels of communication between the youth/ young adult community of the Sud-Ouest and the business owners in the area.

This initiative is being spearheaded by Youth Stars Foundation’s director, Malik Shaheed, who has close ties to the Sud-Ouest: He grew up in little Burgundy, played hockey in Saint-Henri, played baseball in Ville-Emard, and worked with youth as an animator at the YMCA in Pointe Saint-Charles. The idea for the program came when Malik Shaheed reconnected with the owner of Lord Williams, Joe, a former resident of Pointe Saint-Charles. Shaheed had supported Joe as a youth during his time at the YMCA.

Malik Shaheed’s ties to the community and his notoriety as a TV host and event producer has allowed him to develop relationships with several business-owners in the area. With the program “Briding the Gap” Shaheed seeks to use his position to bridge the gap between the
young residents of the Sud-Ouest and the newly settled/ existing merchants.

In partnership with different community groups in the area, the program seeks to…

• Offer an opportunity for owners and/or management teams to share their professional
experience, insight and advice to the young community through testimonials.

• Provide youth/ young adult community an opportunity to acquire knowledge about
establishing a business, the importance of networking and more.

A selected number youth may have the chance to continue their professional relationships with interested business owners through a job-placement pairing process.

Malik Shaheed will also be sharing his entrepreneurial-insight with the participants by shedding light on the obstacles and struggles he faced on his path to success.
